Rare North Carolina OA: Sold!

Posted in Patch Collecting, Tslagi 163, Wahissa 118 by John E. Pannell on October 31st, 2006 at 2:45 am

Two great North Carolina OA pieces recently sold on eBay. These sales were notable for the prices paid as well as the pieces sold. Observant folks will also notice a few odd things about the sale…

The two items sold were a Wahissa S1 and Tslagi X1.

To my knowledge this is the most ever paid for these two pieces. The 163 piece sold for more than three times what I would have guessed it to be worth. After noticing some oddities about these auctions, other than the prices, I wrote the seller asking if these were actual sales. I also wanted to advise him about a character with a reputation for offering high prices for rare stuff and then being unable to pay. He assures me the bids are legitimate.

Are these prices data outliers or have we just seen the new benchmark set for these pieces? Time will tell.

    John,

Read your post this morning and clicked through the link. The buyer mikkyty14 has been NARU’ed. From eBay at least, we will never confirm if the sales were concluded successfully.

That (the NARU’d bidder) was the main reason I had written the seller. That looked odd when combined with the very high (IMO) “Buy It Now” price. Since I know the seller personally, I trust his word that these are “for real” bids.

These SAME two items are back on ebay for auction.

Okay, I’m an idiot- what does NARU’ed mean??

The Wahissa S1 eventually sold for $1,000 which I believe is a fair, but not cheap, price for a mint “brown pipe”.
