When Old is New

Posted in OAImages News, Patch Collecting by John E. Pannell on November 29th, 2006 at 6:21 am

z123zs1.jpg A new line of “replicas” is being sold on eBay by beaver95_1.   This group all picture old lodges that had changed their names without ever issuing a patch.

So far the lodges are Zitkala-sa 123, Blackhawk 140, Nipperine 155, Doog Gnituocs 164, and Hilo-Hos-Kula 205.

Sometime soon these five “new names” and their patches will be added to my site.

Category IconTsali Team Dance Champion Flaps Arrived

Posted in SR-5 Lodges, Tsali 134 by John E. Pannell on November 29th, 2006 at 12:23 am

Hank Birdsong of Tsali 134 wrote the following message as a comment to a previous message about these flaps:

The 2006 Dance Team Championship patches have arrived! Most will go out on the 28th & 29th of November. With each mail-order we are including a Tsali Lodge Pocketflap Guide & checklist. More Tsali Pocketflap guides will be available at the Wahissa TOR on December 16th, and the second edition with more Tsali Issues will be available at Dixie (free!!). Tsali flaps are about the most difficult to distinguish between issues (I was in the lodge for more than a year before I had a clue!), but this guide should clear up the mystery.

Those who have ordered this flap should see it in their mailbox soon.

Category IconNew Occoneechee LLD Rounds Issued

Posted in Occoneechee 104, SR-7B Lodges by John E. Pannell on November 27th, 2006 at 1:04 am

Occoneechee lodge has recently issued two new LLD rounds. One is for participants and the other for staff.

These were hurriedly ordered from Moritz after it was thought that there were insufficient stock of the previous version, R15 and R16, produced by BSA supply. Moritz graciously produced these with virtually no lead time. In the rush the fleur d’lis was left off and the slogan was incorrectly rendered as “Every Arrowman Deserves A Trained Leaders.”

43 Years Ago Today..

Posted in Current Events by John E. Pannell on November 22nd, 2006 at 8:42 pm

On this date in 1963 President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas.

In his inaugural address President Kennedy said:

Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

That became the basis of the Kennedy Doctrine.   How many today remember this?   How many still believe this?

There was a single bidder on this lot who won the item for the $1,000 opening bid.

70x14.jpgA new Indian affairs segment was issued issued by Tsoiotsi Tsogalii 70 at its Fall Fellowship this past weekend.   It arguably may have the honor of being the last patch issued for this past Summer’s NOAC.

Conclaves in the Carolinas: 1981-1983

Posted in Scouting Blogs and Websites by John E. Pannell on November 17th, 2006 at 4:18 am

Pastor McCanless has written a rather interesting post about the state of OA conclaves here in the Carolinas from about 1981 until 1983.   He was a brother in Itibapishe Iti Hollo 188 during this time.   He writes:

…let us hearken back to those groovy days, of Scouting in the piedmont of NC during the early 1980’s. Feel free to throw in your Asia, J Geils Band Freeze-Frame, or Chicago XVII CD, to help set the mood, as we figure out what was up with all those pink-bordered patches in 560 in ‘83, learn about the “shadow delegations” to the ‘82 Dixie, and what WAS up with that 188/116 Fellowship in the fall of ‘83, anyway

New SR-7B Conclave Patch Trading Rules

Posted in Patch Collecting, SR-7B Lodges by John E. Pannell on November 16th, 2006 at 12:58 am

I have been told by a friend of mine that the advisers of SR-7B have decided that patch trading at the 2007 Conclave will follow the same rules used by the BSA at the National Jamborees.   Trading is to be permitted only on youth to youth and adult to adult bases.   Youth status is defined as being under the age of 18.   No trading will be permitted between youth and adults.   News of this change was to be passed along to the membership of the section’s lodges.
