UNC 105 — Florida Atlantic 52

I made my annual pilgrimage to the Dean Dome last night to see UNC’s men’s basketball team humiliate the team from Florida Atlantic University.     Clearly, FAU was outclassed by the far superior Tarheels.

As reported on Yahoo! Sports:

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Not even hard-to-please coach Roy Williams could find much fault with North Carolina’s near-perfect first half.

Tyler Hansbrough scored 20 points and the second-ranked Tar Heels led by a school-record 47 points at halftime of a 105-52 rout of outmanned Florida Atlantic on Tuesday night.

“I loved our intensity in the first half, I loved our attention to detail and I loved just about everything we did,” Williams said — a departure from his tone after his team’s not-good-enough recent wins over Kentucky and North Carolina-Asheville…

The first half was far more lopsided than the final score indicates, with the Tarheels up 65-18 at the half.     It was clear early on to this spectator that FAU’s game plan consisted solely of “Foul Hansbrough, try to make a 3 point shot”.   Both failed miserably.    Carolina was 22-24 at the three throw line in the first half.

For a brief moment in the second half, Tyler Hansbrough had more points (20) than the entire FAU team.

The Tarheels improve to 9-1.     Florida Atlantic falls to 4-6.     Up next for the Tarheels is Saint Louis on the 22nd.
