BSA, fdl, and Other Proprietary Emblem Trivia

What is a “pre-fdl” issue?

Bob McCanless recently wrote an interesting piece on his blog on the use of BSA proprietary marks on lodge flaps.   Those who think the  fleur d’lis (note the spelling!), or the BSA acronym first appeared on patches in the mid-70s mid find this an especially interesting read.

Some lodges, including a former lodge of mine, always included this on their flaps.   Some did at first and then dropped all use of these indica for a time.  Others still alternate include and exclude these marks to this day.
