Lodge 296: New 2003 Conclave Fake Found

Posted in Nayawin Rar 296, SR-7B Lodges by John E. Pannell on February 21st, 2007 at 10:00 pm

Yet another fake of a 2003 conclave flap has recently surfaced on eBay. Greg Grimes tipped me off to its appearance on eBay early this morning. This time it is the S32 that has been faked.

The seller of this piece, patch-works, has a reputation for selling fakes. Barring other evidence, you can safely assume anything he sells is a outright fake or Chang-type fake.

As with other items that have come from this source, subtle changes have been made in the design. In my opinion, this marks this piece as a deliberate fake rather than some sort of overrun or Chang-type fake. On the real S32 “Conclave Work Day” is embroidered in RED. This same text is in BLACK on the fake. There are other subtle differences, most notably a difference in the shade of yellow used, but the red or black text is by far the easiest way to tell these two apart.

Blue Book style information for this piece is as follows:

Issue Bdr Color/Type Bkgd Name fdl/BSA Comments
ZS7? SMY R LBL YEL YEL fake of S32; BLK Conclave Work Day

It will be added to the main body of this site soon.

By the way, I still need an image of the ZS5, “Nawayin Rar” flap, for my site. Can anyone help out with that?

Let’s give credit were it is due….my brothers from my boy-hood lodge enlightened me first. With all due respect, they sure have had a great number of fakes lately. Small lodges that typically to not make large numbers of any issue seem to be favorites of the fakers since their flaps are generally higher in their value. Doesn’t seem to be quite fair…then again, even with the larger lodges, the more covenanted or restricted the issue, the more likely the possibility of having a fake. Kinda leans toward unrestricted issues I guess. Until that time, I guess the fakers will continue to make these issues to catch unsuspecting buyers by surprise.
