Lodge 331: Two Unlisted Neckerchiefs
Once again, thanks to Woody Woodruff for letting me scan these pieces from his collection. Thanks to him, I added images to the site for several very difficult pieces as well as being able to document several more that are not yet in Blue Book.
These two neckerchiefs from 1989 and 1991 have managed to escape inclusion in Blue Book for all these years. One was issued for the 1989 SE-7 Conclave. The other piece’s raison d’etre is less than perfectly clear but was issued in 1991.
The 1989 neckerchief is a simple black silk screen on a yellow neckerchief. I propose it be listed as N2.9. Apparently the lodge had a Batman ™ theme for conclave that year?
The other piece declares 1991 to be the “Year of the Lodge”. Superimposed over a tied feather is the phrase “Proud to be an American”. It was during that year that Lee Greenwood’s famous song became popular once again. But then there’s the feather, tied as if prepared for a bonnet. Was this piece intended to have a patriotic or American Indian theme? I propose this be listed as N3.1.
Proposed Blue Book listings for these pieces are as follows:
| Issue | Bdr Color/Type | Bkgd | Name | fdl/BSA | Comments | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| N2.9? | YEL | - | YEL | BLK | – | Conclave 1989 |
| N3.1? | WHT | - | WHT | BLK | – | 1991 Year of the Lodge |

How do you distinguish whether the first neckerchief was a lodge issue or a section issue?
The section neckerchiefs follow the general design and theme of that year’s conclave.
The 1991 neckerchief (while was at the conclave) was actually distributed after the actual conclave due to a spot of rain which cancelled the conclave premeturely. It was an “American” theme be it either patriotic or native.
There are quite a few other Klahican neckerchief problems in the Blue book. There is the N
That’s a good call, Michael, to remind us about the 1991 SE-7 Conclave! I had forgotten that.
Your comments were cut off. What are the other neckerchief problems?
N
Try #3.
N0 White silkscreen with approximation of R1 on it. before 1969
N1 Two varieties, issued after N2.
1978 Host Lodge (probably a conclave issue)
1987 ONS Conclave White with green picture similar to 1988 conclave patch.
1992 - similar to 1991 with blue piping an “Have You Seen the Arrow” instead of “Year of the Lodge”
N5 - never heard of it. (NOAC 2004?)The N6 was printed on both sides so it is probably the reverse side of it.
