“Whatzit” Solved

999mcfaddenIf you haven’t already seen this, check out the “Whatzit” page on the site.

The patch pictured here was a rather interesting one.

The Silver Beaver is flanked by  Scouter’s Training Award and Scoutmaster’s Key, above which are what appears to be Boy Scout and Cub Scout service stars.     Between the ribbon is written “WWW”, leading to the possibility this could be some sort of OA issue.

Greg Pioppi, of the Minsi Trails Council, was able to solve this puzzle.     He writes:

On your WHATZIT you have a patch ID’ed as 999mcfadden.jpg. I can give you some of the low down on that patch.

Paul J. McFadden was the President of the  old Delaware Valley Council in Easton, PA, before it, along  with the Lehigh and Bethlehem Councils   merged to form the Minsi Trails Council back in 1969.

Paul was a long time Scout and Scouter, earning his Eagle as did his son  Mike McFadden, who went on to become Mayor of the city of Easton,  and hopefully his grandson, Paul J. McFadden, aka PJ, who is a Life Scout  in my troop, Troop 25 of Palmer Twp, a suburb of Easton.

This patch was for the District Camp-O-Ree of that year…It had nothing to do with the OA (Ah’Pace was the lodge then).

The WWW was part of the patch along with the Silver Beaver, Scout Master’s Key and Boy Scout Leader’s Training Award just to show some of the things that Paul was entitled to wear.

Do you have any possible OA “whatzit” patches?     If so, send them to me at jpannell@oaimages.com and I’ll do my best to add them to the Whatzit Page.

If you can  identify any of these, please let me know, too.   Your answer may well appear on this blog.
