A Dean’s Tribute

Dean Smith received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree last Sunday at UNC’s graduation.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Dean Smith did not seek fame or personal recognition during his time as head coach of North Carolina’s men’s basketball team, but 10 years after his retirement, the former Tar Heel head coach received one of the University’s highest honors, a honorary degree at the annual spring Commencement ceremony.
"One should guard against preaching to young people success in the customary form as the main aim in life. The most important motive for work in school and in life is pleasure in work, pleasure in its result, and the knowledge of the value of the result to the community. "
