Lodge 118: Eke Otkia Chapter Items

Posted in SR-7B Lodges, Wahissa 118 by John E. Pannell on June 18th, 2007 at 12:31 am

Here’s four ovals from Wahissa lodge’s Eke Otkia chapter that are not yet listed in Blue Book.

One of them is my current frontrunner for the “Most Audacious Use of Pink on a North Carolina Patch” award. That pink is so hot it starts its own heatwave!

The current owner acquired these issues from a collector/dealer well-known here in the Southeast. The numbering of these issues is his, but may well be purely conjectural. If someone knows the order of these issues with certainty, please let me know.

For those not familiar with Raven Knob Scout Reservation the design could withstand a bit of explanation. It’s not just some random image. The Native American is posed standing atop “The Knob”, a rock outcrop high on a hillside overlooking the camp’s main lake and OA arena.

The exact ordering of these issues aside, the Blue Book listings for them should be:

Chapter Issue Bdr Color/Type Bkgd Name fdl/BSA Comments
Eke Otkia X2? RED R M/C RED LBL fdl; oval, Native American on Knob
Eke Otkia X3? DTN R BLK RED LBL fdl; oval, Native American on Knob

  1. Homer Dearmin Says:

    John,

A bt of a correction on this one. The rock is intended to represent Hanging Rock, as Eke Otkia Chapter serves the Hanging Rock District, aptly named as this area is Stokes County, Home of Hanging Rock State Park.

    Hope you are doing well!

    Homer

  2. Paul Isaacson (past chapter chief) Says:

this rock is symbolic for Hanging Rock located in Stokes County, the area our Chapter serves. I can not speak for the pink patch on numbers but 150 silver and gold borders were made and 200 red borders were made (3 in a set)
