China… and Deck Furniture!?

s_china-110.jpgSince the discussion in various forums has centered lately around patches made in Asia, rather than the U.S., I thought I’d share some family vacation photos.     My brother and his family are currently visiting my sister-in-law’s family in China.

They did the usual tourist-type things in Beijing.     Then headed to Yangshuo and Guilin for several days.     From there they headed to Shanghai and then took the new high speed train back to Beijing.

This first photo was taken in Guilin.     I found it rather interesting to see the Communist-era concrete buildings rising up from a more traditional Chinese village and the surrounding karst formations.

mengmeng.jpgThis past weekend they returned to Beijing.   While my brother and his wife were climbing the Great Wall, my niece spent some time with her aunt, uncle and (slightly) older cousin.        This trip  was the first time they had all met.     This picture was taken somewhere near the Badaling portion of the Great Wall, possibly near the home of my sister-in-law’s brother.

I suggested that now I need a large wall fountain and some bamboo, so I can landscape my yard like this.     That would be interesting because of something else I noticed in the picture.

Take a look at the wicker furniture in the foreground.   Now look at the furniture on my deck furniture.jpgin the bottom picture.     Except for the cushions both sets of are identical.   My set was bought at  the local Lowe’s.   Yes, it was “Made in China.”

Of all the things to see, I thougt it odd and bit humorous to see someone else with the same deck furniture… in China.     I guess, this is a good example of “globalization”.

I’d really start to worry if they also had the same  Order of the Arrow patches!
