2007 World Jamboree Off to a Royal Start

The 2007 World Jamboree has officially begun.

According to the Sunday Times (London), HRH Prince William of Wales visted the Jamboree on July 28th.    Unlike their grandmother, the Queen, who was a Girl Guide as a child, neither Prince William nor his brother, Prince Harry, were Scouts.

The Jamboree was officially opened by HRH The Duke of Kent, President of the Scout Association and first cousin of the Queen.   Queen Elizabeth II sent a personal message which was read by the Duke of Kent.

I have seen no word yet as to whether the current Baron Baden-Powell will attend.   Given both his personal and family involvement with Scouting, I would expect him to attend.

Boys’ Life is also covering the Jamboree on their site.

The video of “Jambo - The Official Song of the World Scout Jamboree” is now also online.
