These 50 States: Virginia
This is the second of an ongoing series about state shaped Order of the Arrow patches. Previously I covered issues from North Carolina.
One Virginia shape patch comes to mind and it’s a classic issue from the oldest lodge in the state. It’s the X1.5 (as listed in Blue Book) from Nawakwa lodge. This patch is an X1 that has been cut to shape.
Observant readers will notice that it doesn’t include the whole state of Virginia. The southern portion of the Del-Mar-Va peninsula is excluded.
I remember hearing a disagreement between two collectors some years ago as to whether this should have been listed at all. One collector pointed out that this is simply an X1 that has been trimmed. The other pointed out that it was the lodge that did the trimming and — he claimed — the patch was issued in both its trimmed and untrimmed form. I won’t take a stand on this either way other than to say, I will follow the lead of Blue Book and the Virginia editor on this piece.
Are there others I have missed?
"Alice laughed: "There's no use trying," she said; "one can't believe impossible things."
"I daresay you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was younger, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast."
