csullivan.jpgThe following obituary and message from J-T Wells, Lodge Chief of Occoneechee #104, were passed on to me this morning. While we remember Charlie and celebrate his life of service, please remember his family during what will be a difficult time for them.

From The Herald-Sun:

DURHAM - Charles Scott Sullivan, 87, died Wednesday, November 14, 2007, at Croasdaile Village. He was born on June 1, 1920, in Asheville, the son of the late Emmett Banks Sullivan and Claire Scott Sullivan.

Charles was a great campaigner for the youth of our nation and showed his care and concern by contributing heavily to the Boys Scouts of America organization. He worked hard to make sure that every young man under his tutelage would receive all that they needed to succeed and thrive. He was a member of both the national camping committee of the Boy Scouts of America and the national committee of the Order of the Arrow.

Among the many scouting awards Charley received were the Silver Beaver, the Silver Antelope, the Distinguished Service Award for the Order of the Arrow and the Order of the Arrow Founders Award…

J-T Wells writes:

Brothers,

It is with great sadness as I write to inform you that Charlie Sullivan passed away this morning. The man many of us knew to embody all that the Order is and the man who we are naming our new Lodge building after has passed. He was an example to all of us in the lodge, region, and on the national level as he served as Lodge Advisor, on the OA National Committee, and many other positions within the Order of the Arrow.

The family is not holding a visitation, but as far as funeral arrangements, the service will be Friday at 11:00 AM at Watt Street Baptist Church in Durham. The family would appreciate all Scouters coming in uniform. Those that would like to say a few words about Charley will be able to during the service. I would encourage all that can to come and represent the lodge that Charlie cared so much about.

This weekend at LLD, we will recognize Mr. Sullivan and all that he has done for this Order. I hope that everyone will take a moment to pray for his family and all those that were so greatly influenced by him.

Thank you and I hope to see many of you this weekend.

Yours in Brotherly, Cheerful Service,

J-T Wells

Lodge 104 Chief
