UNC 107 — Iona 72

After seemingly doing their best to throw away their season opener against Davidson last week, the Tarheels came back with a decisive thumping of the Iona Gaels today.     Granted, Iona is not the opponent that Davidson was, but it’s still nice to see a good thumping every once in a while, even if it was a game devoid of drama.     It might seem odd, but the game was not nearly as close as the score may make it look. ;)

“CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Tyler Hansbrough never saw the guard who tried to stop his transition slam. Not until after North Carolina’s star forward had thrown down the dunk and landed on top of the would-be defender…”

The rest of this story can be found on Yahoo! Sports.

Carolina will probably lose their number one ranking this week to UCLA, but that’s ok.     The season is very young.     What really matters is who is number one come next April.
