UNC 83 — GA Tech 82

One would not normally think the only team in the ACC with a losing record would pose much of a threat to the Tar Heels.   But that’s not how things tend to work in the ACC, especially when presented the opportunity to knock off the number one team in the nation on your home court, where they haven’t won since 2001.   Georgia Tech was on a mission to be the giant killer.   Carolina survived by a score of 83-82.

This was probably both the best played and hardest fought game of Carolina’s season, with a great effort from both teams.    I only had two disappointments:  I had to go to work and most most of the last 12 minutes (but saw the end), and Wayne Ellington’s rather meager scoring production.

After scoring 36 points, including a game winning three pointed against Clemson, he only had 13 against NC State and just 7 against GA Tech.   Coach Williams is probably not too happy with those last two efforts.

Carolina remains one only three undefeated Division 1 mens’ teams as their record improves to 18-0.  They next host the Maryland Terrapins on Saturday.   Look for the Terrapins to take their shot at being the giant slayers by dealing Carolina their first loss of the year.

    John,
Watch out for the Tennessee Vols Basketball team — nope, not the women’s team, the Lady Vols, but the men hoopsters. They are climbing in the polls and currently have the #1 RPI in the country. A young team in a tough conference, but their talent just oozzees out (sorta like my dupe box with CSP’s) all over the gym.

They have played a tough non-conference schedule and play Ohio State today in a marguee matchup. They also go outside the SEC next month and play Memphis State in the midst of thier SEC schedule.

Exciting times in Knoxville which is traditionally a football town. I think your UNC team could take them at Chapel Hill by 4 or 5 and probably on a neutral court by a bucket, but that might change over the course of the next 6 or 8 weeks. Watch out for the Big Orange.

Always looking to trade or swap.
