These 50 States: Maine and New Hampshire
While I’m trying to work on some other things I thought I’d post another installment in this series, one of the shortest to date. Heading northeast from Vermont, I turn my attention towards Maine and New Hampshire.
This is the fourteenth in an ongoing series of posts about state shaped patches. Previous entries have covered state shaped patches from Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Montana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont and Virginia.
These two states are served by only three lodges. Passaconaway 220 is the sole New Hampshire lodge. Maine is split between Pamola 211 and Madockawanda 271. None of these lodges every issued any patches shaped like their respective states, but the states’ shapes have been used in two items from Madockawanda 271.
The first item is the a neckerchief denoting Madockawanda lodge as the host lodge of the 1973 Area 1-B meeting held at Camp Hinds. The silk screened design on the neckerchief, pictured at the top of this post, features what I believe to be the patch from this event with the phrase “Host Lodge” added. In addition to showing the state of Maine in its design, this neckerchief is the only item I could find to show the state of New Hampshire. A small piece of Massachusetts is also included in the design.
The only other item to use the state of Maine in its design is the eN1970, formerly listed as N5, from Madockawanda lodge. Though it is difficult to see in the image, the phrase “Unity Sesquicentennial”, is in dark blue surrounding the red “OA 271″, right of the Maine state capitol building.
Are there any other items I’m missing that should be included here?
