Ty Lawson sat out his second game due to an ankle injury.  It was obvious the team was not the same without him.

Clemson had lost 52 consecutive games in Chapel Hill going into this match up.   A Carolina victory would be a record for the most consecutive home victories against a single opponent.  But it did not start well for the Tar Heels.

Clemson came out strong, lighting it up from outside.   Carolina came out looking like a set of body doubles was wearing the uniforms of the team.   It was not pretty.   Carolina trailed by 11 at the half.   Throughout regulation they never had the lead.

Carolina took the lead in overtime, but a couple of well timed three pointers by Clemson forced double overtime.  Finally, in double overtime, Carolina managed to gain control of the game and earn a victory.   It was a struggle, but the streak is safe for another year.  I could imagine some Carolina fans chugging Maalox during and after this game.

After the loss to dook and the nail biter against Clemson, Carolina now falls to number 5.  Right now, based upon rankings and recent performance, conventional wisdom says any “National Champion” flap from Occoneecchee looks more likely to feature dark blue rather than Carolina blue.

The Tar Heels (22-2) next face the Virginia Cavaliers (11-11, 1-8 in the ACC) on Tuesday night.  It should be an easy victory but nothing can be taken for granted.
