National Vice Chief’s Blog

Posted in Scouting Blogs and Websites by John E. Pannell on February 13th, 2008 at 6:14 am

Ben Stilwill, this year’s Order of the Arrow National Vice Chief, has started his own blog.   Like Bill Mulrenin and myself, he also uses Word Press as his blogging software.   His blog can be found at:

He follows the lead of last year’s National Chief, Evan Chaffee, who maintained his own blog during his year in office.

So far there is only one entry, written a few days ago, where we learn he has decided to pledge Beta Theta Pi at DePauw University.   I wonder how he’ll find balancing school work, pledging activities, and the demands of a national office in the Order of the Arrow.

Postage Rate Increase

Posted in Current Events by John E. Pannell on February 13th, 2008 at 12:05 am

The United States Postal Service will be raising their rates, effective May 12, 2008.

I have not yet closely examined the complete new rate structure but at first glance this appears to be a rather minimal increase.   The domestic first ounce first class rate will rise a penny to $0.42.   The additional ounce rate will not change.

The full details of this rate change can be found on the USPS website.

"Numbers written on restaurant bills within the confines of restaurants do not follow the same mathematical laws as numbers written on any other pieces of paper in any other parts of the Universe.
This single statement took the scientific world by storm. It completely revolutionized it. So many mathematical conferences got held in such good restaurants that many of the finest minds of a generation died of obesity and heart failure and the science of math was put back by years."
