Lodge 104: Another Workhorse Patch?

wdcampbell_workhorse.jpgGreg Grimes recently sent me an image of a patch that he thinks might be from Occoneechee lodge. This lodge has had a lot of attention from those who classify and identify patches so I am skeptical about this. I put this out here for your information and comments.

Both Blue Book and my site currently list an undated Camp Reeves Workhorse Weekend patch as eX19xx-1. This patch identifies itself as an Occoneechee lodge issue through the use of the lodge number and the “WWW”.

Res ipsa loquitur. The patch, eX19xx-1, is clearly an Occoneechee issue.

(In a brief diversion for an inside joke, notice that the “WWW’ does not have any periods in it. )

The story of the Camp Campbell piece is not nearly as clear. Camp W.D. Campbell was a camp in Occoneechee Council at the time this patch was issued. There is not much doubt this patch is connected with that camp in some way. However, nothing clearly identifies this as a piece issued by an Order of the Arrow lodge. The only tenuous OA connection on the patch is the prominent use of the red arrow behind the man.

Dated 1968, it predates the Camp Reeves Workhorse Weekend patch. Perhaps the Camp Reeves weekend was not the first Workhorse Weekend hosted by this lodge.

What do you all think? Does anyone out there know the story behind this patch? Is this a lodge 104 issue? Should it be included with the lodge events?

…One more tid-bit of info. The other 2 Camp Reeves Workhorse Weekends “left-overs” are in the lodge box collection for future auctions which leads me to believe they were in fact lodge issues. There are no W.D. Campbell patches though. The Camp Campbell patches do not show up that often.

Is there anyone that can shed some light on this that is in the know?”

I was always under the impression that a red OA-style arrow was–like the letters “WWW”–enough of an OA indication to usually consider something an OA patch.
