New Malaysian “Faker” Selling on eBay

Posted in OAImages News by John E. Pannell on April 12th, 2008 at 9:21 am

This news is a couple of weeks old now, but I have only just now noticed it.

Roy More reports on his blog about a new Malaysian “faker”, Wishingtree07, now listing his wares on eBay. He also posts a pdf file of this seller’s current offerings.

Like Roy, I don’t really understand his selection of items to fake.   Some of the fakes have higher prices than the real items they copy.     Clearly this seller is not well educated about the Scouting collectibles secondary market.

    John,
Thanks for covering this as well. Education is our best way to fight this and to help our hobby. The more we can get the word out, the better. We can’t put the genie back in the bottle but we can let folks know its out and what it looks like. We need to figure a way to fold this information into your web-site as quickly as possible too so that folks can find out. I appreciate what you have already done in posting fakes (and their principle supplier) in the listings. Still, I see folks making cataloging mistakes on eBay (just saw the 401 fake listed as the S2). I recognize that mistakes can be made, we can make them but certainly work to correct them, but if the information isn’t out there folks don’t know they’ve made a mistake.

    Regards,
    Roy
