Lodge 87: The Bob Father

Posted in Bob White 87, SR-5 Lodges by John E. Pannell on May 12th, 2008 at 5:02 am

87 S36?“I’ll make you an offer you can’t refuse.”

Bob White lodge adopted “The Bob Father” as their theme for the 2008 Dixie fellowship. Two nearly identical flaps were issued. The more common flap has “The Bob Father” in WHT. The rare delegate version, one per person, has this phrase in GMY. Thanks, to Greg Grimes again.

104 S69?I thought I would take a short break from conclave issues here to report on the newest item from Occoneechee lodge. This is the only issue Occoneechee lodge has planned for ArrowCorps5. Thanks to Greg Grimes, again, for this image.

The design features what looks like an angry thunderbird. The ECU colors, purple and gold, again figure prominently in the design.

2008 Section W1B Conclave

Posted in Washington Lodges by skyloo442 on May 10th, 2008 at 7:50 pm

John asked that I would make an entry about the W1B conclave held at Fire Mountain Scout Reservation in Mt. Vernon, Washington. Note: If you live in Washington and would like to become the Washington editor please contact John and he welcomes the additional help.

The conclave this year was the largest in attendance for a good long while. The program was great and the spirit radiated from arrowman to arrowman. The section auction set a new record in sales. This was due to the increase of participants and the quantity and quality of items being offered for auction.

188 S55?Itibapishe Iti Hollo wants you to support the troops.

This lodge issued five patches for the 2008 Dixie Fellowship. There was the flap pictured here and four pocket patches, each depicting a branch of the US armed forces. All the patches, including the flap, were issued with a pocket loop. Thanks to Greg Grimes for sending images of these pieces.

The tank is for the US Army. The USS Alexandria represents the US Navy. A bulldog depicts the US Marine Corps. A fighter plane was used the US Air Force. As far as I know, no patch was issued for the US Coast Guard.

185 X19?Atta Kulla Kulla, like Skyuka and Muscogee lodges, issued only an odd-shaped patch for this year’s Dixie Fellowship. Thanks to Greg Grimes for sending the image.

I can’t quite figure out what the whippoorwill is supposed to be doing on this patch. It looks like he’s striking a cowbell? Why the lavender and pink shirt? Maybe I’d understand the design better if I was there. Can someone fill me in on this?

Posted in Echockotee 200, Florida Lodges, O-Shot-Caw 265 by Robert Mathis on May 8th, 2008 at 5:02 am

This past weekend was the annual “Conch Craziness Weekend”, hosted by Nok-Su Chapter of O-Shot-Caw Lodge 265 in the Florida Keys. Folks came from four different lodges to attend, with the furthest attendee travelling over 500 miles to Camp Sawyer (Mile Marker 34 oceanside, just north of Big Pine Key). Still, a longer trip than the Cuban refugees that sailed their raft a few weeks ago, to land on the shores of the camp. Continue Reading »

560 S46?Eswau Huppeday lodge issued two different flaps for this year’s Dixie Fellowship. Even though they appeared the week before at the SR-7B Conclave, I thought I would hold off on a blog post for them until I got to all the other Dixie issues. Roger Ward and Greg Grimes brought these by my home so I could scan them for this site.

The first flap, pictured, is a depiction of “Eswau World”. The design was inspired by the relative proximity of this year’s conclave location to Carowinds.

270 L5?The post titles are probably looking very repetitive by now, but there’s still plenty more 2008 Dixie Fellowship issues yet to come.

Skyuka lodge was the host lodge for this year’s Dixie fellowship. Like Muscogee and Atta Kulla Kulla (post yet to come), the lodge issued an odd-shape for this year’s Dixie Delegates. However, Skyuka was unique in being the only lodge to issue a leather patch for this year’s conclave.

The design is patterned after the conclave patch issued by the section. Once again, thanks to Brad Hutto and Greg Grimes for sending images and news of this issue.

Muscogee lodge issued a single patch, not a flap, for the 2008 Dixie Fellowship. The design depicts this lodge’s theme for the conclave: The Mighty 221. The theme was inspired by the movie 300.

Thanks to Greg Grimes and Brad Hutto for sending me images of this piece.

Centenary Bronze

Posted in Scouting, other than collecting by John E. Pannell on May 3rd, 2008 at 2:42 pm

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was at the Baden-Powell House yesterday (2 May, 2008) in order to unveil a bronze commissioned by the UK’s Scout Association as part of Scouting’s Centenary celebrations.

Scouting was founded in the UK in 1907, so presumably this is one of the last celebratory events.

The Scout Association writes on their website:

“The Queen, Patron of The Scout Association, has today unveiled a bronze of herself, specially commissioned as part of Scouting’s Centenary celebrations.”

116 S26?The 2008 Dixie Fellowship, SR-5 Conclave, was held this past weekend. Nearly all of the 11 lodges in SR-5 issued patches for the event. This is the first of many blog posts detailing the new issues that appeared.

Santee lodge issued a single flap for this year’s conclave. The Carolina Parakeet, desperately in need of some sunscreen, has taken up building sand castles by moonlight. ;) The flap was issued with a red loop so members could wear the patch without having to sew it onto their uniforms.   Thanks to Brad Hutto and Greg Grimes for sending me images of this piece.
