These 50 States: Indiana
Here is the next entry in the series of posts on state shaped patches, and state shapes used in patches. About a third of the states have now been covered. Previous entries may be found in the category, “These 50 States.”
The list for Indiana is rather short. Most of the lodges headquartered in Indiana have since merged or been absorbed by other lodges. The few remaining active lodges in this state are not known as prolific issuers of patches.
First up is 75 Kiskakon. The state of Indiana appears on two of their patches. It first appears on the X1 issued to honor this lodge’s merger with Papakitchie 142. This is also listed as the X1 for Papakitchie 142.
Indiana also appears on the patch tentatively labeled “eX2005-3?”
The shapes of both Illinois and Indiana appear on the X4 issued by 110 Michigamea for the 2000 NOAC.
So-Aka-Gha-Gwa 212 used the shape of Indiana on several of their item. The shape of this state was used on several lodge neckerchiefs from the 1960s, listed as N7, N7.5, N8 and N11. The lodge’s X1 uses two silhouettes of this state in its design. Finally the X2 (pictured at the top of this post) and X3 are actually in the shape of Indiana.
Lastly Nischa Chuppecat 212 used the shape of Indiana on three of their items. The S15 and S16, issued for the 1996 NOAC, used this state’s shape in their designs. The X7 (pictured), issued for the 2002 NOAC is in the shape of the OA arrowhead superimposed upon the state of Indiana.
Many NOACs have been held in Indiana. As a result this state’s shape has also been used on items from lodges not in this state. Some also include their own home states and will be mentioned there. If you know of any I missed, please let us know by comenting on this post.
