Lodge 104: Elangomat Segments

Posted in Occoneechee 104, SR-7B Lodges by John E. Pannell on July 5th, 2008 at 5:02 am

Greg Grimes recently acquired a lot on eBay that consisted of several patches from Occoneechee lodge that have been missed by Blue Book.     These are several segments for the lodge’s “Elangomat Service” patch, listed in Blue Book as X21.   The year segments were issued to those who served as an elangomat in those years.     The “Spring Fall” segment required a person to serve as an elangomat in both the Spring and Fall of the same year.

I can see how these were missed.

First the Elangomat Service patch, X21, is listed out of order.   Since it has to predate the 1999 segment, its correct chronological place is no later than between the X13 and X14.   Apparently this patch was missed for a few years.

The Elangomat Service patch and its segments required a significant act of service to earn and were awarded one per person.     As far as I know, none were made available for trading.

There is also the matter of the existence of other year segments.   Greg is confident that there are no “2007″ segments.   He also doubts there were segments for 2005 and 2006.   We both feel confident in assuming there was a 2001 segment.

Neither of us will make an assumption for 2004.       I don’t know if 1999 was the first year for these.

Perhaps readers of this blog can help me with information on any other segments?

All this creates some difficulties for assigning catalog numbers to these.     My best guesses follow.

First, I propose a minor clarification in the X21. This is less confusing than creating a new listing and changing the X21 listing to something like “now listed as…”.

Issue Bdr Color/Type Bkgd Name fdl/BSA Comments
X21 WHT R/C WHT BLK - ELANGOMAT SERVICE; Indian head in Chief’s bonnet (issued before X14)

This is how I propose inserting the various segments.

Issue Bdr Color/Type Bkgd Name fdl/BSA Comments
X13.5? BLK R KHK - - 1999; segment for X21
X13.6? BLK R PBR - - Spring Fall; segment for X21
X14.5? BLK R KHK - - 2000; segment for X21
X16.4? BLK R KHK - - 2001; segment for X21 (unverified)
X16.6? BLK R KHK - - 2002; segment for X21
X20.5? BLK R KHK - - 2003; segment for X21
X21 WHT R/C WHT BLK - ELANGOMAT SERVICE; Indian head in Chief’s bonnet (issued before X14)

If anyone can help clarify the places within the chronological listings for these pieces, or knows of other segments, please comment on this post and/or send me images.
