1965 Area 6-A Fellowship
Once again, the lodges of Area 6-A broke with their tradition of holding their area fellowships at Scout camps. Croatan 117 hosted the 1965 Area 6-A fellowship at Camp Lejeune.
Notice that there is no indication of the host lodge — either in words or by totem — on the patch. Was this some sort of tradition with Croatan?
There was also a neckerchief issued for this event. As you can see the neckerchief’s design was obviously based upon the design of the pocket patch.
Since this was a conclave “by the sea”, I offer this selection from “Sweeney Todd”. I prefer the earlier version of this show with Angela Lansbury and George Hearn to the recent movie. Helena Bonham Carter and Johnnie Depp offer a more surreal spin on this.
I seem to remember this pocket patch being among the easier ones from this time period (early to mid 60s) to acquire. This is getting closer to the time period when our conclave patches can easily be found. With some patience, both the patch and neckerchief can be found affordably.

John,
Croatan Lodge hosted this event at Camp Lejeune just as it did the 1961 Fellowship.
In fact, Croatan hosted the 1955, 1961, and 1965 events at locations that the East Carolina Council did not own. This was probably due to the small size of the dining hall at Camp Charles. It was not until 1972 that Croatan hosted the 6A at the Bonner Scout Reservation that it did so on its home property.
Oops… I just noticed that Herman was doing more than pointing out past conclaves not at the host’s Scout camp in his comments. I had the wrong lodge listed as the host in my post.
Klahican did not host this… Croatan did… I’ve corrected the post. Thanks, Herman.
