1948 Area F Conference
In 1948, the lodges of western Pennsylvania met at Camp Twin Echo near Ligonier PA, the site of the 1940 National Order of the Arrow meeting. The conference was hosted by Anicus Lodge 67 and featured the first “conclave patch” issued in Region 3. The patch was a felt arrowhead with a silk-screened design based on the standard Camp Twin Echo patches of the era.
The reverse side of the patch has red lettering saying “GREETINGS FROM STANDARD PENNANT CO. BIG RUN, PA.” Standard Pennant was located in western Pennsylvania and manufactured the classic Anicus Lodge chenille chipmunk patches.
In addition to the patch, there was a metal neckerchief slide issued at the event, featuring an arrow, the year, and the inscriptions “C.T.E.” and “W.W.W.”.
It appears that there was no area meeting for western Pennsylvania in 1949. While the text on many later Area 3B patches suggests that area meetings were held every year starting in 1948, there is no record of a 1949 meeting having taken place.
At the start of 1948, Area F contained thirteen lodges:
- Wagion 6
- Eriez 46
- Kuwewanik 57
- Anicus 67
- Sagamore 130
- Ah’Tic 139
- Unalachtigo 168
- Chimalus 242
- Ho-Squa-Sa-Ga-Dah 251
- Chief Cornplanter 255
- Deer Rock 256
- Hopocan 275
- Wopsononock 347
Packanke Lodge 419 was chartered in Area 3B in 1949.
