Adding to the Collection

Egwa Tawa Dee 129 B3?

Since my collecting interest is very restricted, it’s not often I get to add to my personal collection.   This patch came in the mail to me today.     It was issued last weekend at the Atlanta Trade-o-ree.

Bullions are rather unique items, a synthesis of both wire work and traditional embroidery.     There aren’t very many different ones.     Lodges tend to issue there in small quantities.     Some of them are very scarce.

I think this piece turned out nicely, for the most part.     If I had a list of my favorite bullions this one would probably rank high on it.   Cahuilla 127 B2 probably is still my favorite among the recent bullions.

AOL Block Removed

Posted in OAImages News by John E. Pannell on September 29th, 2008 at 3:48 pm

Some here might be aware of the problems some users of this site have experienced, namely in getting communcations from me, especially if they had AOL addresses.     In short AOL has been blocking email from this site’s server since early this year.

I can finally report good news on this front.     I received this message from an “AOL postmaster” this morning:

The block on the IP has been removed and please allow 24 hours for the block to be cleared.

Thank you,
Sridhar
AOL Postmaster.

The block has been removed.   I will update the subscription pages on my site to reflect this later today or tomorrow.

For the third consecutive year Echockotee lodge would host the Area J Fellowship Meeting in November 1947.     A leather neckerchief slide, much easier to read than the 1946 piece, was issued.   Thanks to Robert Mathis for the image of this piece.

The lodges of southern Georgia and Florida gathered again from the 1946 Area J Fellowship.     As in 1945, Echockotee lodge served as the host lodge for this event.

Also as in 1945, a leather neckerchief slide was issued.     Age and the choice of a darker leather make it difficult to read the text of the slide on this image.     Once again, thanks to Robert Mathis for this image.

USC falls to OSU Beavers, Good News For Georgia Fans

Posted in Uncategorized by skyloo442 on September 27th, 2008 at 12:43 pm

Well I normally write about patches, but for those who know me, I am a Die Hard OSU Beaver Fan & Alumni. If you hate USC then this is great news. My Beavers handed them their first loss this year. I know a lot of you are in SEC country so when your team gets number 1 at the end of the season you know who to thank.

OSU normally starts slow and loses to a chump (Stanford) and a decent team (Penn State) but as the season progresses they become unbeatable. We will most likely be number 1 but we win our Bowl Games.
As a side note we normally have a very good baseball team — ask UNC.

On May 1 and 2 of 1954, the lodges of central Pennsylvania met for the first time as Area 3E at Camp Tuckahoe near Dillsburg, Pennsylvania. The meeting was hosted by Tuckahoe Lodge #386.

A white plastic neckerchief slide with a red arrowhead was issued for the event. This is the only memorabilia with a specific Area 3E designation issued before 1960; from 1955 through 1959, attendees were given neckerchiefs with an attached patch from the host lodge. There was also a meeting program with a hand-drawn cover.

The lodges of Area J met at Camp Echockotee in November of 1945 for their Fellowship Meeting.     Echockotee 200 was the host lodge for this event.   This might be the first such meeting of these lodges.     This is the first piece of memorabilia known to me from this area.     I thank Robert Mathis for supplying the images used in this and forthcoming posts about Area J meetings.

This neckerchief slide should look very familiar to those who collect North Carolina Conclave Memorabilia.     The piece is almost identical in design and text to the 1945 Area I Fellowship Meeting neckerchief slide.

I Got Plenty of Nothing

"I got plenty o'nothin' and nothin's plenty for me..."

Wow, where did August go? Most of the month has gone by with nothing new appearing on this blog. It seems like it was only a few days ago that I was struggling with the server switch and site relocation. That is all done now and things appear to be going well. There are still some issues with broken links and missing images but I may be able to resolve that over the weekend. It's good to not have to worry about possible hardware failures.

25 Hours Later

The mail server at OAImages' new home has now remain unblocked by what I call the "internet gods" for over 25 hours now. That's a very good sign that they agree my server is clean and not a spammer. It appears my email problems are now resolved.

I only wonder who had this ip address before me and what were they doing to merit notice by CBL.

I will continue to monitor this situation. However if you have trouble getting email from this site's server, especially concerning passwords for the members area, please see my previous post on this subject. Read the Full Post

Concerning Email and Broken Links

Update: 8/7/10 @ 1400: The block by CBL has been lifted for over four hours now. This is a good sign, but not a resolution of the problem below... yet.

Automated emails from this site's mail server are currently being blocked by many or most ISPs. It has been listed on the Composite Blocking List for being compromised in some way. I have already had it delisted, but it has been listed again.

This most directly affects subscribers to the site as it prevents automated messages concerning passwords from being delivered. I consider this a critical issue. If it cannot be resolved soon, I will return to the old server and hosting solution. In the mean time, please read the rest of this message if you are experiencing difficulties logging into the members area!

Watching The Traffic

I've been watching the traffic flow into the site since I flipped the switch here last night. It looks like DNS entries propagate very fast these days! That's a far cry from what I remember when I first built this domain when it still took several days for a DNS change to take effect.

If you want to see what sort of traffic this site gets, you can view the stats here:

Wilkommen, Bien Venue, Welcome

If you see this post you have accessed OAImages on its new home. It has been running at its IP address for over a week now. A few days ago, oaimages.net was pointed here. Late Thursday night, the switch was flipped for OAImages.com. It may take a couple of days for the DNS changes to propagate around the internet so some visitors may see this site sooner than others.

I expect there to be a few hiccups. Please let me know, preferably in the comments, if you experience any problems.

Thank you.

Today's Status Report

"Everything is in a state of flux, including the status quo." - Robert Byrne

Another portion of this site's move has been accomplished. This blog's software, Wordpress, is now installed and running at the new location. Perhaps I should call it "OAImages Blog 2.0"?

Until the move is final, this blog will continue to be updated periodically. However, my primary focus now is on the site move. All previous blog posts and data will be transferred to the new location in due course.

My goal is to be moved into the new location by the time everyone returns home from the Jamboree, or shortly thereafter.
