OAImages on Mobile Phones
I have been looking at the new Blackberry Storm and drooling. I want one and am trying to figure out how to justify to myself spending money on a new cell phone that does all sorts of “neat things”. I’m one of those folks who uses a cell phone as their primary phone, don’t even have any visible or active phone jacks in my home.
But, I also am one of the few cell phone users who don’t even use text messaging. I already own an iPod that still has a *lot* of space on it. I own a quite servicable laptop with wireless access. I don’t travel much anymore. So, beyond the “gee whiz” factor, why do I really need a phone with a 3 megapixel digital camera, built-in MP3 player, touch sensitive keyboard, and a full web browser.
But did I tell you, I think it’s really cool?
With that in mind, I thought I’d share with those considering a smart phone how this site looks on one. Thanks to Chris Brightwell for the screen captures from his iPhone.
At the head of this post is one of the lodge pages from my site in portrait mode. Other than the text being small, and the format (to me) looking very “1990s”, the site is quite usable on the iPhone. Here’s another screenshot in landscape mode, showing just a single issue.
I’m sure the site won’t look as good on other phone. Theoretically, I have web capability on my Razr, but do not (yet?) have a plan to allows me to use it.
Now that free WiFi access is becoming more widespread, imagine being able to look up patches while browsing tables at a Trade-o-ree. Imagine being able to check up on issues or values before agreeing to a trade.
Hmm… If I was actually to attend more than one TOR every year or so, I could show up with my smart phone, look up a piece on the site and then, if the piece was an image need, take a photo of it right there without having to drag out my scanner or digital camera…
Anyone care to share other screen shots here showing how this site looks on their mobile phones? Maybe you can convince me I really need to buy that Blackberry Storm…
