1950 Area Z Fellowship Patch

In 1950 the Order of the Arrow’s areas were reorganized conform to the BSA’s twelve areas. The lodges of Area “Z” were split between Area 6-B and Area 6-C, with the former area being the precursor of the Dixie Fellowship.

The first Area 6-B fellowship meeting was held in 1950 at Camp Barstow with Muscogee 221 serving as host lodge.     This event is sometimes called the 1950 Columbia Fellowship.   This was the second time Muscogee lodge 221 hosted hosted an area fellowship.   They had previously hosted the 1947 Area “Z” meeting.

Thanks to Jason Spangler (www.santeeswapper.com) for supplying the images for the Area Z and Dixie Fellowship patches used on this blog.

After the 1950 reorganization, Area 6-B consisted of western North Carolina and most of South Carolina.   According to McLean and Riddle’s A Golden Legacy: A 50th Anniversary History of the Dixie Fellowships the following lodges were in Area 6-B in 1950:

  • Santee 116
  • Tsali 134
  • Atta Kulla Kulla 185
  • Itibapishe Iti Hollo 188
  • Muscogee 221
  • Un A Li’yi 236
  • Skyuka 270

There seems to be some confusion over when Itibapishe Iti Hollo 188 was moved from Area 6-A to Area 6-B.   MacLean and Riddle show this lodge being in Area 6-B on their maps, but do not include it in the list of lodges in this area.     Area 6-A did not meet in 1950 and 1951.
