Here are two more 2009 NOAC issues from Occoneechee lodge.  These are a flap and chevron, designed as a two piece set with a unified “mad scientist” design.  Following recent custom in the lodge, this set was designed by a youth member who will get a free trip to NOAC for his efforts.

Thanks to Greg Grimes for providing the image of these pieces.

Neither piece is fully embroidered, so the flap will be listed as an “F” issue.   Both items, along with the previously listed CSP/SAP, are embroidered on light purple velveteen.    Some of the colors are a bit problematical to describe.   Please see the notes about this at the end of the post.

Listing data for these two issues are as follows:

Issue Bdr Color/Type Bkgd Name fdl/BSA Comments
F9? BLU R LPR TMY* TMY* fdl; NOAC 2009, on GRY velveteen
X38? BLU R LPR PUR LPR** fdl; NOAC 2009, on GRY velveteen

* A quick note on this color code: As new metallic/mylar colors are used sometimes a new color code is needed.   At first I wanted to call this “blue mylar” (BMY) as there is already a code for this, but that usually describes a significantly different shade.   This is more like turquoise mylar, so I’ve dubbed it “TMY”.   This color was first used to on the 2009 NOAC SAP/CSP from this lodge. I don’t know if that label will stick.

** The fleur d’lis (fdl) is clearly a lighter shade of purple than the lodge name, but is not the same “light purple” as the velveteen background.   I not sure if we should call it “light purple” (LPR) for the sake of simplicity, or lavender (LAV) to denote it’s a different and third shade of purple.   One choice is simpler and sufficient while the other may be more accurate.  I’m going with the simpler choice for now.

    John,

It’s not LPR velveteen. It’s actually gray velveteen. Does that solve the problem :-)

I don’t want to discourage any youth from designing patches. Here is what I see. I see a Thunderbird that blew himself up. Why did we disembowel our lodge totem on a patch? I have been looking at my S-1 and its pretty blue. Why have we started this trend to purple? Purple triangles. Purple this. Purple that. Enough with the purple. Why not pink? Or lime green? We can think of new ways to trash the thunderbird. Lets get creative here. Maybe a bright pink Energizer Bunny Thunderbird? We could do a TeleTubbies theme next year. Make a vigil flap with that one with the triangle. Maybe drive the arrow right through its head (put him out of his misery). Easter is right around the corner. We could issue a special Easter flap with a Peep on it. A baby Thunderbird- how cool would that be? Maybe we should have done a Ronald McDonald Thunderbird when Rodney stepped down- Maybe put Hamburglar on it too. We can’t put Grimace on a flap though. He is purple.

Since 2004 we have been treating our totem like Paris Hilton’s ChiWaWa. We dress him up like a leprechaun, a bird flu infected doctor, we’ve thrown a cape on it and put him in tights, made it a Spartan, we even killed him in 2007.

So kids. Lets stop dressing up our T-bird. This isn’t the girl scouts. We don’t play dress up with dolls. We’re men. We like to drop deuces with the door open. We talk about cats. And we like to go on riverboat gambling trips.

I guess Mike wouldn’t be very happy with this flap from Catawba 459:

Their 2008 activity patches follow the same theme.

    ;)

I have a small clip from the Paris Hilton movie on my blog. To bad it got leeched onto the net for everyone to watch. She did not want it to be released as it was her ex Rick Salomon that lost it.
