Suanhacky Asks, “Just Where is NOAC 2009?”
Bill Mulrenin posted about this on his blog recently. I was amused by it and thought I’d share it here. Sometimes two different universities have similar sounding names, especially to those not nearby. That is the lesson learned by the brothers of Suanhacky.
Take a look at the flap recently issued by Suanhacky lodge for the upcoming 2009 NOAC. Look carefully. According to the flap, next year’s conference is being held at ISU, Indiana State University. Maybe the residents of Terre Haute need to defend the high ground from an unplanned assault by several thousand Boy Scouts!
Maybe they were confused and thought NOAC was returning to Iowa State University where it was held in 1998 and 2004!
Indiana University (I.U.), in Bloomington, is the correct location for next Summer’s conference. After realizing their error, Suanhacky produced a second flap naming the correct university.
I can understand their confusion about the similar names of these two universities. Certainly they are not the first arrowmen to be confused by the names of these two institutions.
I have had to explain several times to out of state friends the difference between the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University in Raleigh. If I really want to confuse some people I can then tell them that both universities are public universities and part of the University of North Carolina system which also includes UNC-G, UNC-W, UNC-A, UNC-C…

ISU, IU, either place – where are these mountains on the flap coming from?
I don’t know… Maybe they were planning to go to Idaho State University?
Let’s not forget IUP …Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Ohh…I see a potential for a SPOOF flap: Where the Hell is NOAC 2009? Reminds me of the spoof conclave flap that came out of Seattle some years back when the location of their section’s conclave kept moving around.
