  • August 14, 2009 – What do you think of these new merit badges? Robotics and SCUBA will be the cool ones to the kids. Scouting Heritage will be a favorite of the “old farts”.

"There has grown up in the minds of certain groups in this country the notion that because a man or corporation has made a profit out of the public for a number of years, the government and the courts are charged with the duty of guaranteeing such profit in the future, even in the face of changing circumstances and contrary to public interest. This strange doctrine is not supported by statute or common law. Neither individuals nor corporations have any right to come into court and ask that the clock of history be stopped, or turned back."

  1. Dan - Scouting News Says:

I’m not sure if Scuba actually needed a merit badge, its an activity with its own education / certification progam. I think the Scuba Award is enough to introduce kids to the activity.

Robotics, while over my head, is gaining quite the following in High Schools.

Scouting Heritage is kind of “lame” for the kids these days. Plus it seems an odd merit badge. Very narrow focused and doesn’t introduce a new hobby or activity. Could have very well been an award earned.
