On May 1-2, 1954, Octoraro Lodge #22 hosted the Area 3A Pow Wow near Rising Sun, Maryland at Camp Horseshoe, which had been the site of the first Area E meeting in 1948. A yellow plastic neckerchief slide was issued for the event; the slide has the horseshoe logo of the camp, but does not indicate the date of the event.

In 1953, the lodges of Virginia met as Area 3C for the first time at Camp Darden near Franklin, VA. The meeting was hosted by Blue Heron Lodge #349, and was the only meeting to be held at Camp Darden; Blue Heron hosted later 3C meetings at Camp Pipsico.

A white plastic neckerchief slide was issued for the event. There was also a beaded necklace with feathers, shells, and the round plastic slide attached at the bottom.

Nentico Lodge X15

At the 2008 Fall Fellowship this past weekend, Nentico Lodge issued a new CSP, the second CSP the lodge has issued. The design resembles the classic white lodge flap, with red lettering; this CSP has a black border where the earlier CSP had a red border. The eagle on the new CSP is also darker than on the one issued last year. Continue Reading »

In 1950 Nentico Lodge #12 hosted the lodges of eastern Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia for the Area 3A Fellowship Pow-Wow on April 29-30 at the two-year-old Broad Creek Scout Camps in Whiteford, Maryland.   The event featured the first known piece of Area 3A memorabilia, a burned wooden slice neckerchief slide saying “Broad Creek” and “WWW”.

Lodge 12: Arrowhead Chapter Issues

Posted in NE-4C Lodges,Nentico 12 by Dave Scocca on May 26th, 2008 at 7:00 am

A set of chapter issues from Arrowhead Chapter of Nentico Lodge #12; like the Chesapeake issue of my last post, these are not brand-new but have not previously been documented. There are four arrowhead-shaped patches, all with button loops. Three have a white background and indicate “Ordeal”, “Brotherhood”, and “Vigil”; the fourth has a light gray background and says “Staff”.

The “Staff” patch is distinct from the already-listed A2 in two key ways: the background is light gray (instead of white) and the term “Lodge 12″ is ghosted (instead of red).

Lodge 12: Chesapeake Chapter 20th Anniversary

Chesapeake Chapter 20th AnniversaryThis “new” item from Chesapeake Chapter of Nentico Lodge #12 is eight years old now, but has been hard to catch up with. I have finally been able to scan one this week; I saw it briefly at last summer’s lodge picnic, but was unable at that time to get either an image or enough notes to have a good description. Nentico started using district-based chapters in 1980; several chapter issues have commemorated anniversaries, including the piece pictured here issued by Chesapeake Chapter in 2000.

Nentico Lodge held the 2008 Spring Fellowship at Broad Creek’s Camp Spencer the weekend of April 18-20. The fellowship focused on preparing to host the NE-4C Conclave. The patch design features a hard hat, a shovel based on the OA arrow logo, and what I sincerely hope is a pile of dirt.

pocket patchThe first Northeast Region conclave of 2008 was held this past weekend, May 16-18, at Camp Spencer of Broad Creek Memorial Scout Reservation. Nentico Lodge #12 was the host. This was the last event for Section NE-4C as it is currently constituted. Starting this summer, Nentico, Nentego #20, Guneukitschik #317, and Amangamek Wipit #470 will form NE-6A, while Susquehannock XI and Tuckahoe #386 will join three other lodges in NE-6B. New Nentico Lodge #12 FAKE

Posted in NE-4C Lodges,Nentico 12 by Dave Scocca on April 9th, 2008 at 9:46 am

Yesterday I posted elsewhere about the discovery of a new faker selling on eBay. The faker is selling out of Germany under the name patch--world (with two hyphens).

This morning I found the patch pictured here, a fake of the hard-to-find Nentico Lodge #12 X4. The most obvious difference between the fake and the real X4 is that the fake is computer-made and of modern manufacture. In addition, the arrowhead is significantly different: the X4 arrowhead is more rounded and has details where the head and shaft join, while the fake arrowhead is more pointed and lacks any details at the base of the arrowhead.

I Got Plenty of Nothing

"I got plenty o'nothin' and nothin's plenty for me..."

Wow, where did August go? Most of the month has gone by with nothing new appearing on this blog. It seems like it was only a few days ago that I was struggling with the server switch and site relocation. That is all done now and things appear to be going well. There are still some issues with broken links and missing images but I may be able to resolve that over the weekend. It's good to not have to worry about possible hardware failures.

25 Hours Later

The mail server at OAImages' new home has now remain unblocked by what I call the "internet gods" for over 25 hours now. That's a very good sign that they agree my server is clean and not a spammer. It appears my email problems are now resolved.

I only wonder who had this ip address before me and what were they doing to merit notice by CBL.

I will continue to monitor this situation. However if you have trouble getting email from this site's server, especially concerning passwords for the members area, please see my previous post on this subject. Read the Full Post

Concerning Email and Broken Links

Update: 8/7/10 @ 1400: The block by CBL has been lifted for over four hours now. This is a good sign, but not a resolution of the problem below... yet.

Automated emails from this site's mail server are currently being blocked by many or most ISPs. It has been listed on the Composite Blocking List for being compromised in some way. I have already had it delisted, but it has been listed again.

This most directly affects subscribers to the site as it prevents automated messages concerning passwords from being delivered. I consider this a critical issue. If it cannot be resolved soon, I will return to the old server and hosting solution. In the mean time, please read the rest of this message if you are experiencing difficulties logging into the members area!

Watching The Traffic

I've been watching the traffic flow into the site since I flipped the switch here last night. It looks like DNS entries propagate very fast these days! That's a far cry from what I remember when I first built this domain when it still took several days for a DNS change to take effect.

If you want to see what sort of traffic this site gets, you can view the stats here:

Wilkommen, Bien Venue, Welcome

If you see this post you have accessed OAImages on its new home. It has been running at its IP address for over a week now. A few days ago, oaimages.net was pointed here. Late Thursday night, the switch was flipped for OAImages.com. It may take a couple of days for the DNS changes to propagate around the internet so some visitors may see this site sooner than others.

I expect there to be a few hiccups. Please let me know, preferably in the comments, if you experience any problems.

Thank you.

Today's Status Report

"Everything is in a state of flux, including the status quo." - Robert Byrne

Another portion of this site's move has been accomplished. This blog's software, Wordpress, is now installed and running at the new location. Perhaps I should call it "OAImages Blog 2.0"?

Until the move is final, this blog will continue to be updated periodically. However, my primary focus now is on the site move. All previous blog posts and data will be transferred to the new location in due course.

My goal is to be moved into the new location by the time everyone returns home from the Jamboree, or shortly thereafter.
