Camp Eatonbrook Neckerchief Slide

Back in late July I wrote an entry about the neckerchief slide issued for the 1961 Area 6-A Fellowship.     In that post I commented:

“…It is only a guess, but this piece appears to be hand assembled from separately produced components.     The sitting brave appears to be a piece that someone might have been able to buy in quantity at a gift shop, or similar store.     Then the clear plastic back would have been printed separately.     These pieces and a loop could be then assembled to make the finished piece you see here…”

This was a logical hypothesis.   I was hoping someone would comment that could confirm or deny this.     It turns out someone from New York had something to say about this.     Ray Gould wrote in a comment:

1973 Area 6-A Fellowship Patch

Tslagi 163 hosted the final Area 6-A Conference in 1973 at the Cherokee Scout Reservation.   On January 1, 1973 the BSA’s twelve areas were reorganized into six regions.     The eight lodges of Area 6-A were now labeled section SE-3A.     Technically one could argue this was the first SE-3A conclave.   As there was no change in the composition of this area/section, they chose to meet one last time as the “Area 6-A Fellowship”.

The pocket patch, shown, is based upon the traditional design of Tslagi’s totem used on almost all their flaps.     For the first time, the numbers of all the area’s/section’s lodges were shown on the patch.

1972 Area 6-A Conference Patch

Croatan 117 hosted the 1972 Area 6-A Conference at Bonner Scout Reservation.   This is the first time the event is referred to as an “area conference” on the patch instead of an “area fellowship”.

This was also the first time Croatan hosted the event at Camp Bonner.     When the lodge previously hosted this event in 1961 and 1965 it was held at Camp Lejeune.

The central part of the pocket patch appears to be based upon the lodge’s neckerchief patch, P1.     I first saw the 117 P1 at the 1993 SE-7 Conclave, shortly after moving to North Carolina.   I was impressed by it then and still am today.
