Tslagi 163: Another Fake Resurfaces

Posted in SR-7B Lodges, Tslagi 163 by John E. Pannell on July 19th, 2007 at 2:52 am

163zs2.jpgA couple of months ago, I wrote about a patch from this lodge that I dubbed, with tongue firmly implanted in my cheek, the “One True Fake“.   In that post I told the tale of what I have listed on my site as the Tslagi 163 ZS1? and also made reference to a second private issue, believed to be unique   I will tentatively label this the ZS2? since, even though this was likely made before the “ZS1?”, it was the second of the fakes to see the light of day.

The patch labelled ZS2?, like the ZS1?, was created by a collector in my lodge.   He had put together a display of Tslagi issues and was lacking a YS1 but was able to find a company that would produce a computer designed flap with a similar design.   It was believed only one of these was made.   The patch I previously described as the ZS1? came about at the same time.   It now seems that more than one of the computer designed copy of the YS1 were created.

The One True Fake

I’ve been in an ornery mood all week, so I’ll stir up a little controversy tonight by telling the story of the “One True Fake”.

The internet can be an amazing tool to improve communications.   Sometimes it can even expose a fake patch, and cause controversy, in a lodge 3000 miles away.

In his comments to an earlier post on this blog Bob Ross writes:

…This being said, this letter gives me a new reason to finally take “The One True Fake” on a Pilgrimage…

Most folks reading this won’t know what he’s talking about and some explanation is needed.  Now for the rest of the story, as best as I can piece it together several years after the fact.   I will exclude the names of the “guilty” even though that will make it a little harder to follow the story.

Rare North Carolina OA Sold! UPDATE

Posted in SR-7B Lodges, Tslagi 163, Wahissa 118 by John E. Pannell on November 9th, 2006 at 6:42 pm

This is an update to this earlier post.

I have been told the buyer has backed out and these have not been sold. I will therefore be deleting these from my priceguide. I was suspicious of the sales to begin with, but had been initially assured the bids were real. It turns out the buyer was not sincere in his bids.

Two great North Carolina OA pieces recently sold on eBay. These sales were notable for the prices paid as well as the pieces sold. Observant folks will also notice a few odd things about the sale…
