A few years back the Occoneechee Council had its annual meeting in the Durant Nature Park, in a building that I assume had been the dining hall back when it was the Scout camp.

I'm not sure whether this came across as a nice touch or a poke in the eye to those who were fond of the old camp and regretted the sale.

John,

The interesting aspect of the 63 memorabilia is that the neckerchiefs were misprinted "6H". You will note that an "A" was created by using a pen to color in the top the "H". There may be some that were printed correctly but I have never seen one.

John,

I discussed the neckerchief slides from this event with the 6-A chief from that year. Actually, there are several of these slides. They have different poses for the Indian. Anyone could purchase the slides but they were not available at the conclave. You put in your order at the conclave and they were shipped to you.

Here's a much better translation I found elsewhere. It includes the spoken dialogue and the background vocals.

****
Hi, dom Pedro
Si ?
What is your secret to be so fast ?
You would like to know, don't you ?
It is an "especial" potion.
I'm going to tell you.

1,2,3
EPO te quiero (EPO I love you)
Thanks to you , I'll be "numero uno" (number 1)
EPO te quiero
Thanks to you, I'll have the nicest of the jerseys.

On the roads of France,
I enjoy the sunny days.
I musn't make too much effort
If I want to win the Tour.
I wander on my bicycle
Without effort or complex.
Far ahead of the peloton,
I'm humming a song.

EPO te quiero
Thanks to you , I'll be "numero uno"
EPO te quiero
Thanks to you, I'm going faster than Tornado.

When I have a little pump strike (I feel drained)
Bicycle (pump)
I stop beside a field
Opium poppy (field)
So I extract from my bottleneck
of EPO
An good old medicine
And when comes the end of the stage,
I'm hailed as a hero.
Bravo, Bravo
The champaign, I don't give a damn about it.
I prefer my EPO.

EPO te quiero
Thanks to you , I'll be "numero uno"
EPO te quiero

...

Your attention ! Everyone saddles on !
Each morning, with EPO, get a leg up.
A product of ours the whole world envy.
For you and your bicycle, EPO is what you need.
Thanks to you my EPO.

Cuter than Laurent Fignon, EPO
Stronger than Poulidor, EPO
And far crazier than Virenque, EPO
And more handsome than Bernard Hinault.

Thanks to you, my EPO.

John will have the scan up shortly. I and Paul Collett are calling this ZJ1.
The blue background is darker than the original. The fake has a cloth back and the original has a plastic back. The details in the arrowhead and fdl in the fake are lacking. The length of the arrowhead in the fake is 31mm vs. 28mm in the original. The eyes in the native american are missing the white. The grass is darker in the fake. I can go on but the fake is no where close to the original. Beware these fakes come from Germany.

Hi John-
How interesting. I have a similar style neckerchief slide that was used at the former Camp Eatonbrook of the old Madison County Council in central NY (it also dates to the early 1960's). I had long believed the item was handcrafted locally but given the example you share, manufacture on a larger scale was likely (your example is the only other slide like this I've ever seen). I will try to get a scan of the Camp Eatonbrook slide to you for comparison (if interested).
My best-

The orange twill of this patch is also found on many BSA "Golden Anniversary" issues, including the national issue set (Jubilee Camporee, Jubilee Field Day, Cub Scout Jubilee, 1960 Jamboree, Schiff, and Philmont). (It is also the background for the three Baltimore Area Council camp segments issued in 1960 for Broad Creek, Cone, and Deep Run.)

Yep, either the writer for WND was sloppy or not too bright, or the editors decided to push their bias rather than reporting the facts accurately.

This turned out to be a good example of why one must read any news story with a critical eye.

I was stunned by the incomplete reporting that was done on this and had to call some people on the AC5 staff in the Western Region. The facts that John has stated in his comments section are accurate. Peace loving hippies (my a**), don't they know that fade has long since passed.

Well I had to edit again. 491 is indeed the host lodge. Someone in California forgot where the boundries are and after going down on a survey crew on the Memorial Day holiday I was enlightened by the 491 folks that the entire project is within their boundries. So much for my edit the first time I was right got my mind changed latter to to shown that I was right in the first place.

Reminds me a little of the plastic inserts that you used to need to play a 45rpm record on a regular 33 1/3 spindle.....was there a 33 and a 3rd lodge? .... :)

Hello and thanks for any help,

There are 2 Nentego Lodge Patches I'm looking for –

DEL-MAR-VA - COUNCIL - NOAC 2006 -

Here's where to see images of both patches

http://www.oaimages.com/cgi-bin/buildpage.cgi?pp=20&dd=2&ii=217

and

http://www.oaimages.com/cgi-bin/buildpage.cgi?pp=20&dd=2&ii=243

If you know of any way to find the patches, or if you know someone who lives near the Lodge... I'm on the other side of the country, so I can't go to the lodge and ask around myself.

Then I could buy it from you

Thanks much for any help,
