Lodge 270: 2009 NOAC Issues

Posted in SR-5 Lodges, Skyuka 270 by John E. Pannell on May 20th, 2008 at 5:02 am

270 NOAC09 Flap, RED borderLast month at the Dixie Fellowship, Skyuka lodge had their 2009 NOAC issues on sale. The lodge issued four flaps with matching pockets patches as a fundraiser for this upcoming event. Once again, thanks to Brad Hutto for supplying me the images of these.

Each flap is loosely based upon an identical scene from a well known cola commercial. The pocket patches resemble that bottle of cola. Notice that the lodge is very careful to not identify the beverage. There could be legal issues if they did.

Lodge 270: New Chapter Items

Posted in SR-5 Lodges, Skyuka 270 by John E. Pannell on May 18th, 2008 at 12:02 am

270 Spartan X6?Along with various Dixie issues, Brad Hutto also recently sent me images of two new chapter pieces from Skyuka lodge. The two patches were from Spartan and Union chapters.

The first of these is from Spartan chapter. When the Blue Book 6 database was published there were no known issues from this chapter. This is the sixth issue I have added since then. This patch has a similar design and shape to the X5, but with a SMY border.

Lodge 236: 2008 Dixie Issues

Posted in SR-5 Lodges, Unali'yi 236 by John E. Pannell on May 13th, 2008 at 5:02 am

236 S63?Unali’yi lodge had an evolving patch design for their two issues for this year’s Dixie Fellowship. The patch depicts a theory that some school systems still seek to ban, but with a Scouting twist. The matching pocket patch has many uses.

Thanks to Brad Hutto for the images.

Lodge 87: The Bob Father

87 S36?“I’ll make you an offer you can’t refuse.”

Bob White lodge adopted “The Bob Father” as their theme for the 2008 Dixie fellowship. Two nearly identical flaps were issued. The more common flap has “The Bob Father” in WHT. The rare delegate version, one per person, has this phrase in GMY. Thanks, to Greg Grimes again.

ShoppingAds Removed from Site

Observant users of this site will notice the ShoppingAds advertisements disappeared from the site yesterday.  Very observant users may have noticed a previous post that was on the bottom portion of this page promoting this same service had disappeared before that.

I have been experiencing some problems with ShoppingAds since late April.   I believed their accounting of website traffic was inaccurate.  Various reports on their site about my traffic contradicted each other.   Income had been below normal most of the year but really started dropping in April.  May's total was less than half the running average.  So far, May is running at about 15% of what I would normally have expected.  Neither site traffic nor ad impressions have seen a similar drop.

1944 Area I Patch?

I was recently corresponding with a friend here and the subject of the supposed 1944 Area I Meeting patch came up.   He was able to share with me some information about this patch.   I have deliberately deleted the names of all individuals involved.

You will occasionally see rectangular strips that say something like "Morrow Mountain State Park, 1944".    At least one local collector has the piece and has displayed it on numerous occasions.   My friend asked him about it and was told that it is part of a "truly complete" Area I set.     There are some who support this view.

There is no evidence that a 1944 meeting took place.   Instead there are rumors about some sort of "planning event" that took place there in 1944.   Given that World War 2 rationing would still have been in effect, I am doubtful that such a meeting would have been held, if it was just intended to be a  "planning event".

Lodge 104: Elangomat Segments

Greg Grimes recently acquired a lot on eBay that consisted of several patches from Occoneechee lodge that have been missed by Blue Book.   These are several segments for the lodge's "Elangomat Service" patch, listed in Blue Book as X21.  The year segments were issued to those who served as an elangomat in those years.   The "Spring Fall" segment required a person to serve as an elangomat in both the Spring and Fall of the same year.

I can see how these were missed.

First the Elangomat Service patch, X21, is listed out of order.  Since it has to predate the 1999 segment, its correct chronological place is no later than between the X13 and X14.  Apparently this patch was missed for a few years.

The Elangomat Service patch and its segments required a significant act of service to earn and were awarded one per person.   As far as I know, none were made available for trading.

Lodge 188: 2007 LLD Patches

188 2007 LLD PatchThanks to Larry Banks for sending me word of a few new issues from Itibapishe Iti Hollo lodge.

Itibapishe Iti Hollo lodge issued two patches for their 2007 LLDC.   The BLU bordered participant patch is pictured here.

My events listings for this lodge are probably very incomplete as  I don't receive much information from this lodge about its issues.   The tentative catalog numbers for these items will probably need to be changed if I receive word of other 2007 events issues from this lodge.

Aal-Pa-Tah 237, the 2008 Scout Show service patches

by Robert Mathis

Since 1998, Aal-Pa-Tah Lodge 237 has served their fellow Scouts at the Gulf Stream Council, literally, by running a booth that sells meals to the attendees.  Patches have been made each year for the barbeque pork and fried turkey since that first year, with additional pieces for the staff of the event.  This year continues the baseball theme that began in 2006, but this was the first year with a different patch for the pork and turkey*.

Aal-Pa-Tah 237, The 2008 Activity Patch Series

by Robert Mathis

The theme for the activity patches for Aal-Pa-Tah Lodge 237 in 2008 is the ArrowCorps5 program, as previously mentioned in an earlier blog entry.  What had been pictured was the first "year theme patch" design for 2008, the large version of the pentagon AC5 fundraiser, with more to come.

Well, more has come, in the form of a second year theme patch, and this is sure to set a record.  The patch has 30 sides.  I have also been told that there are 32 different colors, but I have not confirmed this.  With this configuration (also measuring 11 inches tall, 11 1/2 inches wide), it is also unlikely to be sewn onto a jacket.
