Category IconLodge 104: New Standard Flaps

Posted in Occoneechee 104, SR-7B Lodges by John E. Pannell on March 31st, 2008 at 12:07 am

104ob08.jpgOcconeechee will soon issue two new “standard” flaps. To comply with policy that there not be any special Ordeal, Brotherhood and Vigil flaps these will be sold as the lodge’s “standard” flap and a “gold mylar special edition” flap. As the lodge has an ample stock of their older Vigil flaps, there will not be a “silver mylar special edition” flap at this time. It is expected these will be issued at the lodge’s Spring Inductions in May. Thanks to Greg Grimes again for keeping me informed of this lodge’s issues.

Category IconLodge 104: Another Workhorse Patch?

Posted in Occoneechee 104, SR-7B Lodges by John E. Pannell on March 27th, 2008 at 12:03 am

wdcampbell_workhorse.jpgGreg Grimes recently sent me an image of a patch that he thinks might be from Occoneechee lodge. This lodge has had a lot of attention from those who classify and identify patches so I am skeptical about this. I put this out here for your information and comments.

Both Blue Book and my site currently list an undated Camp Reeves Workhorse Weekend patch as eX19xx-1. This patch identifies itself as an Occoneechee lodge issue through the use of the lodge number and the “WWW”.

Res ipsa loquitur. The patch, eX19xx-1, is clearly an Occoneechee issue.

Category IconLodge 104: 2008 Conclave Issues

Posted in Occoneechee 104, SR-7B Lodges by John E. Pannell on March 17th, 2008 at 7:17 am

104 S67?Over the weekend I received word of new special issues from two North Carolina lodges .

Occoneechee lodge has adopted a theme based upon the movie “300″ for the 2008 SR-7B conclave.   A flap and pocket dangle were produced for this event.   Except for the flap and dangle that will be given to lodge delegates, the patches were sold out.  The lodge does not plan reorder any more.

Category IconLodge 104: 2008 Spring Pow-Wow

Posted in Occoneechee 104, SR-7B Lodges by John E. Pannell on March 9th, 2008 at 12:14 am

104 eX2008-1?Next weekend Occoneechee lodge will hold their annual Spring Pow-Wow at Camp Durant.   In advance of that event, Greg Grimes sent an image of the patch the lodge will issue.

It’s an odd shaped patch on felt.   It looks like the wolf has grasped the lodge 104 thunderbird in its jaws.   However, if you look carefully you’ll notice the wolf appears to have no lower jaw.   Of course I have to give Greg some grief for the lodge’s abundant use of ECU purple and gold on its recent issues since he is an alumnus of that school.

104 Yamni Wakpa eX2008-1?Yamni Wakpa chapter sponsors and staffs an annual camporee in their disctrict, Three Rivers District of Occoneechee Council. This year’s event will be held this weekend. As has been customary separate staff and participant patches will be issued. Thanks to Greg Grimes for this news and image.

Both patches are nearly identical design. The only difference is the color of the circle behind the buffalo head. It is red on the staff patch and black on the participant patch.

Category IconLodge 296: 2007 Fall Fellowship

Posted in Nayawin Rar 296, SR-7B Lodges by John E. Pannell on December 31st, 2007 at 1:06 am

This is the second of two recent issues from Nayawin Rar lodge sent to me by Greg Grimes. This fellowship is an adaptation of the black and white motif used on several recent flaps from this lodge. They are proof that you can have a nice looking patch without using lots of colors.

Fall Fellowship should have been sometime ago, but I only just heard word of this patch just now. It seems my usual sources of information have let me down on these two latest patches. ;)

Category IconLodge 296: 2006 Quality Lodge Flap

Posted in Nayawin Rar 296, SR-7B Lodges by John E. Pannell on December 30th, 2007 at 1:05 am

Greg Grimes sent me word a couple of days ago of two new issues from Nayawin Rar lodge. The first of these was a lodge flap issued for the lodge achieving Quality Lodge status in 2006.

Some might think it odd that that lodge would issue a flap in late 2007 to honor their 2006 quality lodge status. When asked about this, I jokingly responded that the ability to make a quick decision is not a requirement to be a quality lodge.

Category IconLodge 118: Takachsin 25th Anniversary

Posted in SR-7B Lodges, Wahissa 118 by John E. Pannell on December 26th, 2007 at 7:00 am

Last Saturday, while I was eating pizza at Peppers and cheering for the Tarheels, there was a trade-o-ree in Winston-Salem. Greg Grimes sent me sent me word and images of three new patches from Takachsin chapter of Wahissa lodge.

These were issued for the chapter’s 25th anniversary, under its current name. DuWayne Amen tells us that 25 years ago the council’s districts and the lodge’s chapters changed names but the areas served remained unchanged.

Takachsin chapter has had several patches before but all previous issues were arrowheads. These are their first ovals. Blue book data for these issues are as follows:

Category IconLodge 104: 70th Anniversary Patches

Occoneechee lodge will issue two more patches this weekend in honor of their 70th anniversary. Thanks to Greg Grimes for sending me the images of these pieces.

Both patches feature modern reinterpretations of classic Occoneechee patch elements. The arrows protruding from a circle and thunderbird were separately used in early lodge issues. See the lodge’s R1 through R7 for examples of these.

Category IconLodge 104: Leather Vigil Triangle

Posted in Occoneechee 104, SR-7B Lodges by John E. Pannell on July 20th, 2007 at 1:56 am

This Occoneechee item has been around for a while now, but never catalogued. From what I have been told, there seems to be some disagreement as to whether this is a lodge issue, which should be added to Blue Book, or not

Thanks again to Greg Grimes for sending me the image of this piece. He reports that this is presented to all of the lodge’s Vigil candidates once they are called out for this honor. After completing their Vigil, the new Vigil brother is presented another copy of this leather with their Vigil name inscribed upon it.

Category IconLodge 104: STILL More Conclave Patches

Posted in Occoneechee 104, SR-7B Lodges by John E. Pannell on April 28th, 2007 at 6:44 am

There are four more patches from Occoneechee lodge for the recent SR-7B conclave that have not yet been reported here. I have alluded to two of them.

In addition to the trading post staff patch (X33?) two more conclave committees had officially approved staff patches. They were for the campsite hosts, and cook crew.

In addiition there was a patch used by the medical service staff. This was not authorized by the lodge and should be listed as a “Z”, at best. Continue Reading »
