Lodge 236: 2008 Dixie Issues

Posted in SR-5 Lodges, Unali'yi 236 by John E. Pannell on May 13th, 2008 at 5:02 am

236 S63?Unali’yi lodge had an evolving patch design for their two issues for this year’s Dixie Fellowship. The patch depicts a theory that some school systems still seek to ban, but with a Scouting twist. The matching pocket patch has many uses.

Thanks to Brad Hutto for the images.

Lodge 87: The Bob Father

87 S36?“I’ll make you an offer you can’t refuse.”

Bob White lodge adopted “The Bob Father” as their theme for the 2008 Dixie fellowship. Two nearly identical flaps were issued. The more common flap has “The Bob Father” in WHT. The rare delegate version, one per person, has this phrase in GMY. Thanks, to Greg Grimes again.

Lodge 188: To Support the Troops

Posted in Itibapishe Iti Hollo 188, SR-5 Lodges by John E. Pannell on May 10th, 2008 at 12:02 am

188 S55?Itibapishe Iti Hollo wants you to support the troops.

This lodge issued five patches for the 2008 Dixie Fellowship. There was the flap pictured here and four pocket patches, each depicting a branch of the US armed forces. All the patches, including the flap, were issued with a pocket loop. Thanks to Greg Grimes for sending images of these pieces.

The tank is for the US Army. The USS Alexandria represents the US Navy. A bulldog depicts the US Marine Corps. A fighter plane was used the US Air Force. As far as I know, no patch was issued for the US Coast Guard.

Lodge 185: 2008 Dixie Fellowship

Posted in Atta Kulla Kulla 185, SR-5 Lodges by John E. Pannell on May 9th, 2008 at 5:02 am

185 X19?Atta Kulla Kulla, like Skyuka and Muscogee lodges, issued only an odd-shaped patch for this year’s Dixie Fellowship. Thanks to Greg Grimes for sending the image.

I can’t quite figure out what the whippoorwill is supposed to be doing on this patch. It looks like he’s striking a cowbell? Why the lavender and pink shirt? Maybe I’d understand the design better if I was there. Can someone fill me in on this?

ShoppingAds Removed from Site

Observant users of this site will notice the ShoppingAds advertisements disappeared from the site yesterday.  Very observant users may have noticed a previous post that was on the bottom portion of this page promoting this same service had disappeared before that.

I have been experiencing some problems with ShoppingAds since late April.   I believed their accounting of website traffic was inaccurate.  Various reports on their site about my traffic contradicted each other.   Income had been below normal most of the year but really started dropping in April.  May's total was less than half the running average.  So far, May is running at about 15% of what I would normally have expected.  Neither site traffic nor ad impressions have seen a similar drop.

1961 Area 6-A Neckerchiefs

Last weekend Woody Woodruff let me scan his North Carolina conclave neckerchiefs.   Among the ones he had for me were these four varieties of the 1961 Area 6-A fellowship neckerchief.   The two major color differences are generally known to North Carolina conclave collectors, however the variations on the tan neckerchief may not be as readily noticed.  I thought these were interesting enough to warrant their own post.

The tan neckerchief is believed to be the piece that any brother who attended the fellowship could purchase.  The first variation of this neckerchief has a dark brown Indian smoking a pipe.   The black highlights are heavily screened.

Lodge 104: Elangomat Segments

Greg Grimes recently acquired a lot on eBay that consisted of several patches from Occoneechee lodge that have been missed by Blue Book.   These are several segments for the lodge's "Elangomat Service" patch, listed in Blue Book as X21.  The year segments were issued to those who served as an elangomat in those years.   The "Spring Fall" segment required a person to serve as an elangomat in both the Spring and Fall of the same year.

I can see how these were missed.

First the Elangomat Service patch, X21, is listed out of order.  Since it has to predate the 1999 segment, its correct chronological place is no later than between the X13 and X14.  Apparently this patch was missed for a few years.

The Elangomat Service patch and its segments required a significant act of service to earn and were awarded one per person.   As far as I know, none were made available for trading.

Lodge 87: ArrowCorps5 Flap

Bob White lodge has issued a flap for those who participated in this Summer's ArrowsCorps5 project at the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests.  I spotted this on eBay but don't yet have an image of the piece to use on this site.

The listing data for this piece are as follows:

Issue Bdr Color/Type Bkgd Name fdl/BSA Comments
S38? WHT R LBL RED RED fdl; ArrowCorps5 GWJ
Bob White 87 page on OAImages.com

The image on eBay was from a digital camera and was not lit too well so I am uncertain if the border of this patch is really white or light grey.

If you can send me a good image of the piece for this site, please do. Read the Full Post on blog.oaimages.com

Wauna La-Mon'Tay Camp Staff Flap S64

by skyloo442

442c Camp Staff FlapIn 2006 Wauna La-Mon'Tasy decided to issue a Camp Staff flap that would cover all camp staffers no matter which camp they staffed at. This also included the 2 JLT courses and the Cub Resisdent Camps. A few years before the Camp Meriwether had a staff flap of their own, S55, and they sold out very quickly.

A New Regular Issue Wauna La-Mon'Tay Flap S68

by skyloo442

S68Well another two years have past and time again for Wauna La-Mon'Tay 442 to issue a new regular issue flap.

This flap was designed by a youth member of the lodge. This is a departure from the past several years where the lodge has gone with an adult design. The funny thing about this flap is that it reminds me of several flaps that Cahuilla 127 has issued over the last ten years.

This design will also serve as the basis for the lodge Leadership in Service flap that will be issued toward the beginning of 2009. I do not believe that the NOAC flap will include this design.

I have plenty of these for trade and I have them available on EBay.   See you again. Read the Full Post on blog.oaimages.com
