These 50 States: Oklahoma

Posted in These 50 States by John E. Pannell on January 29th, 2008 at 6:03 am

Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin’ down the plain
And the wavin’ wheat can sure smell sweet
When the wind comes right behind the rain…

I thought it was well past time to return to a state that actually had some state shaped patches.  Some of these are classics of the hobby, too.

This is the sixteenth in an ongoing series of posts about state shaped patches. Previous entries have covered state shaped patches from Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont and Virginia.

Takachsin chapter has had several patches before but all previous issues were arrowheads. These are their first ovals. Blue book data for these issues are as follows:

This past Summer at Camp Daniel Boone Tsali lodge held an ice cream social on Wednesday evenings before their dance and drum practice and the weekly OA call-outs.   This patch was given to those OA members who attended.

The design depicts a Smoky Mountains landscape framed by a compass housing.  The lodge’s totem appears in red next to the fleur d’lis.   Thanks to Hank Birdsong for the news and image of this patch.
