Category IconLodge 118: New Minsi Chapter Pieces

Posted in SR-7B Lodges, Wahissa 118 by John E. Pannell on April 26th, 2008 at 12:03 am

118 Minsi X5?Roger Ward and Greg Grimes made me aware of two new patches from Wahissa lodge’s Minsi chapter when they were here at my home a few days ago. As far as I know, these are the first new pieces from this chapter in several years.

Both patches have a similar design, differing only in the color scheme. The first item, pictured here, is in full color and has a red border. The second patch is an orange monochrome version of this design.

Category IconLodge 118: Takachsin 25th Anniversary

Posted in SR-7B Lodges, Wahissa 118 by John E. Pannell on December 26th, 2007 at 7:00 am

Last Saturday, while I was eating pizza at Peppers and cheering for the Tarheels, there was a trade-o-ree in Winston-Salem. Greg Grimes sent me sent me word and images of three new patches from Takachsin chapter of Wahissa lodge.

These were issued for the chapter’s 25th anniversary, under its current name. DuWayne Amen tells us that 25 years ago the council’s districts and the lodge’s chapters changed names but the areas served remained unchanged.

Takachsin chapter has had several patches before but all previous issues were arrowheads. These are their first ovals. Blue book data for these issues are as follows:

Category IconLodge 118: Achowelendam Chapter

Posted in SR-7B Lodges, Wahissa 118 by John E. Pannell on June 21st, 2007 at 12:50 am

This is probably the last post about Wahissa lodge patches for a while. “Wahissa Week” is now ending.

This update is much longer than those for the other chapters. Achowelendam chapter is handily the busiest of Wahissa’s chapters when it comes to patches. The first three of these have been on OAImages for a while now, but are not yet listed in Blue Book.

Category IconLodge 118: Takachsin Chapter Items

Posted in SR-7B Lodges, Wahissa 118 by John E. Pannell on June 20th, 2007 at 12:20 am

This is the third in a recent spate of posts for new chapter issues from Wahissa lodge. Up next is Takachsin chapter with two new issues.

Takachsin’s A3, previously listed, denotes their chapter as “Leader of Happy Places”. This is not what the chapter had wanted. “Happy Place” is the official translation of the lodge name. They translate Takachsin as leader. The chapter wanted to claim their apellation as “Leader of Happy Place”. The new “A4?” corrects this error. Other than that, the designs are identical.

Category IconLodge 118: Minsi Chapter

Posted in SR-7B Lodges, Wahissa 118 by John E. Pannell on June 19th, 2007 at 12:29 am

This beginning to seem like it’s “Wahissa Week” here. I’m not done yet, either. There will be at least one more post of unlisted Wahissa items to come.

Next up is a piece from Minsi chapter issued in 2000 that has evaded documentation and much notice, until now. This is a patch I would expect to befuddle latter day collectors if it were found outside of its area. There is nothing on the patch, either in the form of text or design elements, that mark it as an issue of Wahissa lodge. Add to the confusion that Minsi is also the name of a merged lodge.

Category IconLodge 118: Eke Otkia Chapter Items

Here’s four ovals from Wahissa lodge’s Eke Otkia chapter that are not yet listed in Blue Book.

One of them is my current frontrunner for the “Most Audacious Use of Pink on a North Carolina Patch” award. That pink is so hot it starts its own heatwave!

Category IconLodge 118: Unknown and Unlisted Patches

Posted in SR-7B Lodges, Wahissa 118 by John E. Pannell on April 24th, 2007 at 1:15 am

Wahissa is one of the few North Carolina lodges in which it seems I do not have consistently great contacts. I hear about some stuff, but know I’m missing things.

Justin Stirewalt recently wrote me to tell me what I suspected: There are many Wahissa issues missing from both Blue Book and my site. His email gave me a brief list of what’s missing. Some of these are old issues that just never made themselves known to catalogue editors. Others are more recent pieces, where word of them has not yet gone much past the lodge.

Category IconWahissa 118: 1986 Cook Crew Patch

Posted in SR-7B Lodges, Wahissa 118 by John E. Pannell on April 5th, 2007 at 3:05 am

For whatever reason, there are a few cook crew patches from this lodge that have escaped listing in Blue Book over the years. I was made aware of another one, from 1986, this past weekend.

All have a similar coffee pot design, though the colors and style and amount of embroidery differ. I wonder how many more of these there are that have not yet been listed. Were they authorized by the lodge, or made privately by the cook crews? How many of them are out there?

Category IconLodge 118: Third 2006 NOAC Patch

Posted in SR-7B Lodges, Wahissa 118 by John E. Pannell on April 2nd, 2007 at 2:00 pm

I had been told there was a third patch issued by Wahissa for last Summer’s NOAC but until this past Saturday night I had not seen one. At last, here it is.

When I posted on this blog about the “X15?”, the GMY bordered NOAC patch, I received a rather cryptic comment that that piece was a “souvenir”. John Purvis has since written, after I first wrote the draft of this post, and I’m starting to wonder if the “X15?” and this piece should be listed as Z’s. Still, both need to be documented in one way or another.

Category IconWhat Makes It “Official”? — Part 2

Posted in Patch Collecting, SR-7B Lodges, Wahissa 118 by John E. Pannell on March 2nd, 2007 at 12:22 am

This is both a followup to a previous post on this issue as well as a request for more information about a specific patch.

By way of submitting pricing data to my site, I received the following note from John Purvis of Wahissa lodge: Continue Reading »

When I heard the learn'd astronomer,
When the proofs, the figure, were ranged in columns before me,
When I was shown the charts and diagrams, to add, divide, and measure them,
When I sitting heard the astronomer where he lectured with much applause in the lecture room,
How soon unaccountable I became tired and sick,
Till rising and gliding out I wander'd off by myself,
In the mystical moist night-air, and from time to time,
Look'd up in perfect silence at the stars.

118 X2.5This one has not yet been listed in Blue Book, but apparently has been around a while. Thanks to Daniel Graham for sending me the information and image.

I don’t know for sure where this should be placed in the ordering of issues. The numbering is a partially educated guess on my part. Continue Reading »

Category IconWahissa 2006 Events Issues

Posted in SR-7B Lodges, Wahissa 118 by John E. Pannell on December 11th, 2006 at 12:18 am

Over the next few weeks, I will be posting a year end round of of lodge events issues for this past year. For some lodges I have no information, so unless someone tells me what event patches their lodge has made this past year the update will be very short.

Consider this a not so subtle hint and request: If your lodge events issues are not yet on OAImages.com, please send the information and scans along to me.

This is another very short update. To my knowledge Wahissa 118 had no events issues this past year. They usually have patches for their Spring and Fall Fellowships (and I still need an image for any such patches from 2005) but I have not been told of anything for this year. I will edit this posting if word of any issues comes to me.
